“Mall” Screening and Q&A with Linkin Park’s Joe Hahn
On September 23, The Los Angeles Film School hosted a screening of the film, Mall. Afterward, Joe Byron, our Director of Student and Alumni Engagement, joined a Q&A with Director / Linkin Park member Joe Hahn to discuss the production of the film. Having seen a great deal of success playing with Linkin Park, Joe offered unique insights on the transition from music to film.
“Film is a merging of all different types of media.”
Regarding the beginnings of Linkin Park, Joe recalled
“I went to school with one of the bandmembers, Mike Shinoda.”
Addressing the writing process, Joe reflects.
“When the script is solid, everything is easier.”
As this is his directorial debut in feature films, Joe spread some insight to our captivated audience.
“Filmmaking really comes down to the story you want to tell.”
When asked about transitioning from music, and what we can expect to see from him in the future, he said
“Always challenge the way you’re doing things.”
Joe provided inspiration for students to keep going, and continue to try new things.
“The first thing you do is never the best thing you’ll do. You’ll keep getting better and better.”
