WHIPLASH SCREENING AND Q&A WITH J.K. SIMMONS AND MILES TELLER
On Tuesday, October 7, The Los Angeles Film School hosted a screening of Whiplash, a film depicting the struggles of a drummer (played by Miles Teller) and his mercurial conductor (played by J.K. Simmons). The film is an intimate illustration of fervent passion and perseverance and channels remarkable performances by its two leads. Following the screening, Jeff Goldsmith, producer of the iPad app, Backstory, held a Q&A with J.K. Simmons and Miles Teller, where they described their experiences working in film.
Miles Teller discussed that his career has started relatively recently, and was launched with the support of friends in high school.
I got started doing plays in high school.
I originally did broadway in the ’90s, and then transitioned into film with the movie, The Ref.
J.K. Simmons’ upbring in the industry was fueled originally by music, and he elaborated on his passion for the art.
I actually have a degree in classical music.
As a story, the film demanded an immense amount of musical training from each actor involved. Miles described how, luckily, he grew up playing the drums.
When you’re a drummer, everyone has to come over to your house.
In closing the Q&A, J.K. Simmons gave some advice about relentlessly pursuing your passion.
It is great to get out of your comfort zone.
Special thanks to everyone who attended the event, and please keep checking your emails for news regarding upcoming events.
