Henrique Andrade talks about his coolest projects post graduation and playing ping pong with Prince
We asked Los Angeles Recording School (LARS) alum, Henrique Andrade, what he’s been up to since working in the music industry. In short, it’s pretty cool stuff. As an audio engineer, Andrade worked his way up the entertainment ranks to Grammy-award winner for his recording work on Colombian songwriter Juanes’ debut album, Mis Planes Son Amarte (“My Plans Are to Love You”).
Andrade owned the audio engineering process on Juanes’ album. He spent ten days at Record Plant recording everything from the piano to percussion to the banjo—even selecting what mics to use in studio. His coolest experience while in the studio? Playing ping pong with the late Prince. “We played three sets; I won one, but I think he was letting me play to learn my moves. And then, he destroyed me,” exclaimed Andrade.
More recently, Andrade worked with Zayn Malik on his second album. This was a labor of love for Andrade. “I grew a lot during this project as a professional,” said Andrade.
Growth in an industry that can be so unforgiving is a welcomed accomplishment for many. The competitive nature of the music business lends itself to a sink or swim mentality. Lucky for Andrade, he attributes his tactical experience at LARS to help propel him to the top. And those growing pains? They flex with more ease now. “Definitely failed a couple of times and hopefully those become some lessons to keep on going,” said Andrade.
We couldn’t agree more.
