What’s New and Good This November in Entertainment
CORRALLING WHAT’S NEW AND GOOD EACH MONTH IN ENTERTAINMENT NEWS (AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN)
Today is Election Day. We interrupt our regularly scheduled entertainment programming for important midterm news. This is a friendly reminder to exercise your right to vote—TODAY. Polls are open until 8 p.m. If you aren’t sure about the candidates and propositions on your ballot this election, head over to Ballotready.org to prepare yourself. From the wise words of Susan B. Anthony, “Someone struggled for your right to vote. Use it.”
Speaking of civic duties, November is the month we salute our military service members. As a GI Bill® approved school, LAFS supports a creative community of over 400 U.S. Veterans pursuing their dreams in the entertainment industry. If you are a military vet here at the L.A. Film School, email us at social@lafilm.edu and send us what projects you’re working on. We’d love to hear from you!
In honor of the upcoming Veteran’s Day, here’s a recap of Variety Magazine’s 15 favorite military movies.
Here’s what else you should watch this November!
FILM
BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY
In its opening weekend, Bohemian Rhapsody soared to the No. 1 film in North America delighting audiences both young and old. The biopic follows the life of Freddie Mercury as he forms the iconic band, Queen. In theaters now!
THE FRONT RUNNER
Today couldn’t be a more fitting release date for this election-themed film. The Front Runner is based on a true story and follows the rise and fall of Senator Hart, who was considered the front-runner in the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination. Starring Hugh Jackman as Gary Hart, the movie recounts the scandalous affairs that led Senator Hart to withdraw from the race. The film has been met with some criticism.
WIDOWS
Award-winning director Steve McQueen from 12 Years A Slave is back directing a new crime thriller set in corrupt modern-day Chicago. The film focuses on three bereaved women who set out to avenge the death of their husbands who were ruthlessly killed during a heist job gone wrong.
MUSIC
In keeping with today’s election theme (Have you voted yet? If not, stop reading this and GO VOTE.), here is a sampling of new music from artists whose music addresses today’s political climate.
