Grad Nick Coppola Wins At Worldfest Houston Festival
Nick Coppola has racked up accolades at the festival celebrating 51 years running
What award did you win at the Worldfest Houston festival? We won the Platinum award at the Worldfest Houston Festival. A festival running for 51 years now. I was the second Coppola to win since Francis Ford Coppola in 1972 for the George Lucas film THX1133. A handful of films won out of more than 4,500 submissions.
What inspired you to work in film?
I’ve been exposed to film at a young age. I got an opportunity to work on a Cinemax show right out of High School. It seems as if film found me in a way. LAFS gave me all the confidence to pursue film further.
We only filmed 6 days since it was a short-subject film. We had a lot of early discussions about the future of the film during pre-production, many questions revolving around “what if the film won’t be successful?” Boy were we wrong.
If you could give a word of advice to fellow graduates and students looking to follow in your footsteps?
While advice for each student should be determined on a case-by-case basis. My best advice would be to be nice to everyone. You never know who will be a fantastic collaborator, whether it be your classmate sitting next to you, someone at a cafe, or even your gardener. Always try, remember, a closed mouth never gets fed!
Congratulations, Nick! We are proud of you, and look forward to hearing more about your career as you make your way in this exciting industry.
